Job description

Main responsibilities

As part of Manta Marine Technologies Vessel Optimization business line, you’ll work with FuelOpt, our onboard fuel optimisation system installed on more than 500 vessels worldwide. FuelOpt helps ship owners improve operational performance, reduce fuel consumption, and lower emissions through real-time propulsion optimisation.

As a Senior Embedded Developer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining embedded applications running on our proprietary hardware platform. You will work closely with other developers, application engineers, and adjacent product teams to deliver reliable and high-quality solutions for vessel operating worldwide.

The role combines software development, troubleshooting, product improvement, and technical collaboration across the organization.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain embedded software in C running on real-time embedded kernel, on in-house hardware
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of our proprietary hardware platform
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across hardware, operating system, and application layers
  • Participate in concept development and implementation of new product features
  • Develop and maintain internal tools that support system configuration and deployment
  • Integrate software with operator-facing HMI solutions
  • Review, test, and improve code quality and development practices
  • Collaborate with adjacent engineering teams on shared solutions
  • Provide technical support and expertise to internal stakeholders and customer-facing teams when needed

Background and skills

We are looking for a Senior Embedded Developer with at least six years of professional experience in embedded software development. You hold a BSc or MSc in Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. You have strong programming skills in C and experience working in complex embedded environments.

Furthermore, you have:

  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or real-time embedded kernels
  • Experience developing software on custom or non-standard hardware platforms
  • Strong debugging skills across hardware and software boundaries (e.g., JTAG)
  • Experience with industrial and embedded communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, serial communication, or similar
  • The ability to work independently and take technical ownership of solutions
  • Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken

Meriting experience

Experience in one or several of the following areas is considered an advantage:

  • Experience with HMI integration (e.g., Beijer Electronics or similar industrial HMI platforms)
  • Familiarity with C# for scripting/configuration tooling
  • Familiarity with Python for internal tooling/automation
  • Practical understanding of digital/analog I/O and basic electronics
  • Experience in maritime and/or industrial automation
  • Exposure to cybersecurity practices, especially in embedded/connected systems
  • Experience with IoT devices and cloud platforms (Azure or AWS)

Personal qualities

We believe you are a curious and technically driven person who enjoys solving complex problems. You are analytical, structured, and take ownership of your work. As a senior developer, you are comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across different teams. You enjoy sharing knowledge, contribute to a high-quality engineering culture, and take a pragmatic approach to solving technical challenges.
