Marine SCR Service - Keeping your NOx Reduction Performing

SCR system overview

What is a SCR System?

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is an exhaust after-treatment technology used on marine diesel engines to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. By injecting a urea solution into the exhaust gas and passing it through a catalyst reactor, harmful NOx is converted into harmless nitrogen and water vapour before leaving the vessel's exhaust. SCR systems are widely used across the global fleet and can reduce NOx emissions by up to 90% while allowing the engine to operate efficiently.

Why SCR Performance Matters

SCR systems operate continuously as part of the vessel's emissions control strategy. Over time, factors such as catalyst ageing, incorrect urea dosing, deposits, or changes in engine operation can affect performance and reduce NOx reduction efficiency.
Because these changes often occur gradually, performance loss may not always be immediately visible through standard system indications. Vessels operating in IMO Tier III areas — including ECAs and regulated port zones — depend on verified, consistent SCR performance to remain compliant. Undetected degradation puts that compliance at risk.

Supporting SCR Systems in Operation

With over 1,500 Manta-produced SCR systems delivered and installed worldwide (H+H & Yara branded), maintaining reliable performance for our customers throughout the systems operational life is central to what we do. We support our customers globally and can assist with service, troubleshooting, performance verification, and catalyst replacement for SCR reactors, also for other SCR system manufacturers.

Our services include:

  • Technical support & remote diagnostics - fast response to operational issues and performance queries
  • Onboard service & inspection - hands-on maintenance by experienced service engineers
  • Performance verification - testing and documentation of NOx reduction efficiency to support compliance records
  • Catalyst element replacement - supply and installation of tailored replacement catalyst modules to restore full system performance
  • Troubleshooting - fault diagnosis on all major SCR system times, including third-party equipment

Norwegian NOx fondet

Tightening emission regulations and evolving DNV verification standards are placing growing compliance and operational demands on vessel owners and operators. The Norwegian NOx Fund offers substantial financial incentives for documented emission reductions — but navigating the application process is often complex, resource-intensive, and documentation-heavy.

We make it straightforward.

Our NOx Fund Ready SCR Package combines certified SCR service expertise with documentation fully aligned to NOx Fund and DNV requirements. Designed for vessel owners seeking to maximise funding with minimal administrative burden, the package gives you a clear, compliant path from SCR installation or service to approved application.

Full Lifecycle Support for Marine SCR Systems

SCR Service Agreements

Protect your SCR investment with a tailored service agreement. We work with you to define a maintenance schedule and support structure that fits your fleet's operational profile — delivering predictable annual costs, reduced unplanned downtime, and documented compliance readiness throughout the year.

Marine SCR Catalyst replacement

Catalyst performance is critical to maintaining NOx reduction efficiency and meeting compliance requirements. Whether you operate our systems or equipment from other suppliers, we provide tailored catalyst solutions to match your needs.

What we offer:

  • Replacement for our own SCR reactors
Optimised catalyst solutions designed specifically for our systems, ensuring maximum performance and lifetime.
  • Customised catalyst for third-party SCR systems
We engineer and supply catalyst elements adapted to reactors from other manufacturers—ensuring proper fit, performance, and compliance.
  • Strong and efficient supply chain
Through established manufacturing partnerships and sourcing strategies, we deliver high-quality catalyst with reliable lead times and competitive cost levels.

Onboard SCR Service & Parts Supply

When your SCR system needs hands-on attention, our certified SCR engineers come to you. We carry out scheduled maintenance, ad-hoc servicing, and fault rectification onboard — minimising off-hire time and ensuring your system is returned to full operational performance with complete service documentation. Genuine spare parts are available from our offices worldwide, with short lead times, for both our own systems and third-party SCR equipment.

SCR System Tuning & Optimisation

SCR performance is not set-and-forget. Our engineers carry out detailed optimisation of SCR operating parameters to maximise NOx reduction efficiency, monitor catalyst condition, and fine-tune urea dosing to eliminate overconsumption. The result is a system running at peak efficiency — and lower operating costs.

SCR Technical Support

Direct access to experienced SCR engineers, whenever you need it. Whether you are dealing with an active fault, a performance concern, or need operational guidance, our technical support team provides fast remote diagnostics and clear resolution — without going through a generic helpdesk.

Software & Hardware Updates

Keep your SCR system current with the latest firmware, control software, and hardware upgrades. Updates address reliability improvements, cybersecurity requirements, and system efficiency gains. Staying up to date reduces the risk of software-related faults and ensures your system remains supported throughout its lifecycle.
