Strategic partnership enables expanded access to proven SOx scrubber technology while strengthening global service network
Oslo/Nanjing, 21 January 2026: Manta Marine Technologies, a leading provider of cutting-edge technologies for the maritime industry, today announced a five-year licensing agreement with Suntech Equipment that will bring the company's proven scrubber technology to the global maritime market with a primary focus on China.
Under the agreement, Suntech Equipment will manufacture and install SOx scrubber systems based on Manta Marine Technologies' original design, which has been successfully deployed with more than 500 scrubbers across 350 vessels in the global fleet since 2010. The partnership leverages both companies' complementary strengths, with Suntech Equipment bringing manufacturing expertise and market access in China, while Manta provides its reputation for reliable, high-quality technology and comprehensive lifecycle support.

"This licensing deal powerfully combines Manta's reputation for robust, high-quality technology and ability to support customers throughout the entire lifecycle with Suntech Equipment's expertise and access to the Chinese market," says Richard Engelhart Bjercke, Chief Commercial Officer, Manta Marine Technologies. "This partnership enables new customers access to cost-effective solutions without compromises on quality, while allowing our existing customers to continue their investment in high-quality and reliable Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems."
The partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Suntech Equipment previously served as a key manufacturer of Manta Scrubber Towers during the initial global scrubber wave and has since established itself as a reliable service partner in the Chinese market. Under the new agreement, Suntech Equipment will handle all design, manufacturing, and regulatory compliance, while Manta retains the license for scrubber control systems and software, alongside exclusive rights to provide service contracts, maintenance, diagnostics, and spare parts. Drawing on over a decade of experience since 2010, Manta will continue to offer service contracts, remote diagnostic services and troubleshooting, system upgrades and maintain an active parts supply chain to ensure optimal performance throughout the equipment’s operational life.
"We are thrilled to formalize this strategic partnership with Manta Marine Technologies, which recognizes our proven manufacturing capabilities and deep understanding of the regional market," says David Zhang, General Manager, Suntech Equipment. "By combining Manta's field-proven scrubber design with our expertise in high-quality special metal fabrication and local service network, we can deliver a robust, compliant, and cost-competitive solution to ship owners and operators. This agreement strengthens our commitment to providing advanced technological solutions that support the maritime industry's journey toward cleaner operations and regulatory compliance."
The "Suntech Scrubber, designed by Manta Marine Technologies" will be available for order immediately. The technology removes sulphur oxides and other pollutants from engine emissions, supporting vessel operators in meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations, including China's coastal water requirements of 0.5% m/m maximum sulphur content and the International Maritime Organization's net zero emissions target for 2050.
